I thought I’d do a little travel version of this trend! As a budget traveller who loves to splurge, I feel like a walking contradiction sometimes when it comes to travel. I’ll sleep in a hostel but then splurge on a rooftop cocktails, I’ll buy the cheapest flight going but then pay to upgrade it, and I have walked to save money on cabs SO many times and bought an overpriced wine at the end.
But the budgeting rule I live by is: save where it doesn’t matter, and spend where it does.
We all have certain things we don’t really care about on the trip, and we waste a lot of money in those places when the basic option would do just fine. I’ll stay in a hostel in a city, a cheap beach hut on a small islands - but I will 100% splurge on an upmarket spa hotel in the mountains when I can.
Travel is much more affordable and doable if you know where you’re happy with the basics. It’s easy to pull money back on cheap flights and put that towards hotels or experiences. Stay in cheaper accommodat...
