Jill Bakken proudly served in the U.S. Army while competing as part of the World Class Athlete Program. As the pilot of the two-woman bobsled team at the Salt Lake City 2002 Winter Games, she helped lead teammate Vonetta Flowers to a historic gold medal—the first ever won by a Black athlete at a Winter Games.
