Today is World Cancer Day. So often I reflect on my own journey and the journeys of so many I have spoken with over the years. We talk about so many things; losing our hair, neuropathy, chemo brain, changes in our bodies, etc. However, we don’t always talk about how lonely it can feel. As if everything is at a stand still. You can be surrounded by people (very well meaning, wonderful people) and still feel that you are alone. Some survivors don’t realize what incredible resources are available in their communities. We do not have to do it alone. We shouldn’t. We all need a team. If you are a survivor, I encourage you to reach out to your nurse navigator who can help with resources. Talking really can help, hearing from others who are going through or have been through something similar helps. And if you are a caregiver or simply know someone who is going through a cancer diagnosis, don’t hesitate to reach out.
