They include expanding tax allowances for parents with newborns from one to two years. That means they can claim a total of HK$260,000 (US$33,426) in the first two years after their child is born. The city’s birthrate has increased over the past two years after the government introduced new incentives for people to have more babies. But the figure in 2024, which was an 11% increase from 2023, was still the third lowest since data was first made available in 1961.
