First hailing from Germany, stollen was originally composed of just three ingredients: flour, oats, and water. Over hundreds of years, it has evolved from a simple bread into an ornate winter spectacle, featuring such additions as dried fruit, nuts, warm spices, and occasionally, a rope of marzipan that runs the entire length of the loaf.
