Meet Zhang Mengqi from China! A filmmaker and choreographer, Zhang (mengqi4747) is a founding member of the Folk Memory Project. Her powerful Self-Portrait series documentaries explore untold stories and collective history, shedding light on historically marginalized voices. “Since 2010, I have been returning to my home village to collect oral histories and invite memories once tabooed to resurface.” Zhang is inspired to tell untold stories of the past without shame or fear of stigma, breaking the silence, and foster societal introspection.
