Feminist leaders are the foundation of democratic movements. From Guatemala to Kenya to the U.S., they’re building a powerful global resistance. Though recent years have brought challenges and rollbacks, we’ve also seen new waves of feminist and grassroot-led resistance not only to defend against these setbacks but to push forward meaningful, long-term social change. In Guatemala, our partner Asociación Grupo Integral de Mujeres Sanjuaneras (AGIMS) mobilized courageously to protect democracy during the 2023 elections. As incumbent factions attempted to block the transition of power to the newly elected president, AGIMS took a bold stand, rallying outside government buildings and risking their lives to demand accountability and advance gender justice as part of this fight.
