Only 1.2% of global humanitarian aid goes directly to local, grassroots organizations and most dries up after a crisis has faded from the headlines. We have three rules that guide our collaborative, feminist approach to crisis work: ⇾ Listen! Respect the lived experiences of communities closest to the crisis. Follow their lead. ⇾ Stick around! During a crisis, financial resources are critical for organizations to meet their communities' needs. But emergency funding often dries up once a crisis disappears from newsfeeds. ⇾ Keep it flexible! Since the establishment our #CrisisFund, in 2014, we have awarded more than $15 million to 424 organizations responding to crisis in 83 countries. 90% of them are renewal, multi-year funding because we stick around for the long haul.
