I am sorry. Now at pacegallery - one floor of giant gut-wrenching black-and-white hyper realistic
#RobertLongo drawings is pretty good.
But four floors of Robert Longo is such a massive overkill flame out that I do not know what to say.
Right now there seems to be an eighties market moment. The God awful NYT article on Friday on all the artists (in the current
#MaryBoone show at levygorvydayan and someplace else) going on about the period (I like a handful of them a lot) and current nyc shows by Keith Haring and Lawrence Weiner and Richie Serra and others - feels like something that might have seemed a good idea at the time but the effect is enervating. But, there must be product to move.
Rather than the same-old same-old - maybe try the much much livelier and better whitneymuseum “Sixties Surreal” (although there is nothing whatsoever “surreal” about the art) approach and do a show of 100 mostly overlooked artists.
So far, this is so not passing the smell test.
