On this day, 19 years ago, I ran the fastest 400m race by an American and on its anniversary, almost like a fairytale ending , the great sydneymclaughlin16 breaks it. 🤝🏾🥇💫 People always asked me what it was like being the American record holder for so long and I couldn’t quite put it into words until today. Being the AR holder was like still being a part of the event in the most unique way. It was like you were this invisible giant always still on the line, being chased by the best of the best! Every year it stood it reminded me of all the hard work, all the incredible people that believed in me and how much I once lived to compete. Now it’s the legacy of the record that I’ll always cherish. It’s so funny… my career highlights seem to favor 9’s I was 9 when I wrote for a class assignment that I’d be an Olympic champion. 2009- the year I won my first WC 400m gold and was World Athlete of the Year for the second time. 49- sub 50 performances the most by any female in history ...
