#BLPhistory Today we honor the life and legacy of Florence “Flo Jo” Griffith Joyner, one of the greatest athletes the world has ever seen. Born in Los Angeles in 1959, she rose from humble beginnings in Watts to become an Olympic champion and a global icon. At the 1988 Seoul Olympics, Flo Jo set world records in the 100m (10.49s) and 200m (21.34s) that remain untouched to this day. Her speed, style, and strength inspired generations, and her signature one-leg suits, long nails, and flowing hair made her unforgettable on and off the track. Flo Jo was more than an athlete — she was a designer, actress, writer, advocate, wife, and mother. She served on the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and left an impact that stretched far beyond sports. Florence Griffith Joyner passed away in her sleep on September 21, 1998, at just 38 years old. Her name still shines as the embodiment of excellence, beauty, and power. #FloJo #FlorenceGriffithJoyner
