On Friday, September 19, USS Constitution got underway to honor America’s Purple Heart recipients. Purple Heart veterans and their families joined ‘Old Ironsides’ and her crew for this special commemoration at sea, where the ship rendered a 21-gun salute off Castle Island at Fort Independence—paying tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of all who have borne the wounds of battle.
