Margins with onlays can be difficult to pick up if you aren’t prepping smoothly. If the tooth has many natural grooves the scanner may misinterpret the slope or groove as your margin.
drmichaelfrazis’s advice is to prep with purpose and create smooth defined margins that are 90° and distinct from the surrounding tooth.
Creating a bevel on the occlusal makes your life and the life of the ceramist that much more difficult.
Make the margin crisp so you can see it with your naked eye and the scanner or impression material will find it.
