The iPhone Air might be a prelude to the long-rumored foldable iPhone. š
As Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports, work on the foldable iPhone is currently underway in Cupertino and with Apple's manufacturing partners overseas.
When folded, the new device would look like two iPhone Airs stacked together, sources tell Gurman. "It's going to be super thin and a design achievement," Gurman adds.
The iPhone Air launched last week, and its thinnest edge is just 0.22 inches (5.6mm). If we were to go by Gurman's sources, the foldable iPhone would be at least 0.44 inches (11.2mm) thick when folded. That's a bit more than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, which has a thickness of 0.35 inches (8.9 mm) when folded and just 0.17 inches (4.1mm) when opened.
We should get a first look at it next fall, Gurman says, who adds that it will be the star of Apple's 2026 lineup. Gurman says the phone could cost upwards of $2,000.
