You may remember Austin, who we introduced last year as our first #sicklecell patient outside a clinical trial to begin treatment with a newly FDA-approved gene therapy. We’re thrilled to share that Austin completed his treatment earlier this year—and he’s doing great! “Life after gene therapy has been different,” he says. “I have way more energy and haven’t had a pain crisis. I can actually go on runs around my neighborhood now without worrying about getting tired so fast.” At 19, Austin is back in school and working full-time, and continues his monthly visits at our Sickle Cell and Red Cell Disorders Curative Therapy (CuRED) Center. During #SickleCellAwarenessMonth, we’re proud to recognize Austin for his strength, resilience, and inspiring progress.
