Born on this day: Robert Irwin (1928–2023) A pioneer of the Light and Space movement, Robert Irwin’s deeply philosophical work encourages the viewer to attune their sensations to the world around them. Irwin’s innovations, over seven decades, have been hugely influential, and he is perhaps best known for installations that delicately choreograph the light and dimensions of space through the most sparing, exacting and inconspicuous of means. Robert Irwin's final exhibition, which he conceived before his passing, was recently on view at White Cube Paris and highlighted his lifelong focus on experiential art.
