The Museum at FIT (museumatfit) presents “Dress, Dreams, and Desire: Fashion and Psychoanalysis,” the first exhibition of its kind to explore the cultural history of fashion through a psychoanalytic lens. Nearly 100 looks from the 1880s to today, including fashions by Schiaparelli, Versace, McQueen, Galliano, and Undercover, reveal how fashion reflects unconscious desires, fears, and fantasies. Viewers are introduced to Sigmund Freud's and Carl Jung's dream theories, Jacques Lacan's mirror stage, and evolving ideas about sexuality, gender, and fashion as our second skin. Special programming includes the Fashion and Psychoanalysis Symposium on November 14, featuring leading psychoanalysts, such as Patricia Gherovici, fashion scholars such as the exhibition curator, Dr. Valerie Steele, designer Bella Freud, and actress Laverne Cox. Admission is free. The museum is located at 7th Avenue and West 27th Street. To learn more, visit the link in bio. . . . 1 - Jean Paul Gaultier, dress...
