A new report from the European Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) shows Intersex people have faced increased violence, harassment and discrimination in recent years.
The report, published on Wednesday 17 September is based on data from the agency's 2023 LGBTIQ Survey.
The FRA reports that within the year prior to the survey, one in three Intersex respondents said they had experience physical or s3xual violence.
Harassment and bullying were also up, with 74% of respondents reporting that they had experience hate-motivated harassment.
FRA Director Sirpa Rautio said: “Intersex people in the EU experience alarming levels of exclusion, discrimination and violence.”
“Their struggle requires an urgent response. They must be provided with targeted support that addresses their specific needs to ensure they can enjoy their fundamental rights and live in dignity.”
