This morning cross country teams from Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan gathered on Whitecap Dakota First Nation to run and compete for residential school survivors and in memory of those who never came home.
Now in its third year, the Dakota Classic is the first varsity meet in the canadawestofficial conference to take place on a First Nation.
In partnership with huskietfcc, Running Wild Athletics, Whitecap Dakota First Nation and Dakota Dunes, the annual event aims to brings sport and community together in the spirit of Truth and Reconciliation, while increasing awareness of the ongoing harms caused by residential schools and demonstrating the ways in which we can all take action to move forward together in a good way.
Congratulations to all of this year's winners and a big thank you to all of the athletes, teams, coaches and volunteers who participated, everyone who attended and all who helped organize another year of reconciliation, remembrance, sport and community ๐งก๐
