Let's talk about conservation on this World Gorilla Day. 🦍 There are four subspecies of gorillas in the wild, and sadly, all are listed as either endangered or critically endangered. To help save these species, the Detroit Zoological Society (DZS) partners with two different gorilla conservation organizations. 💚 Gorilla Rehabilitation and Conservation Education (GRACE) cares for rescued Grauer’s gorillas in the Democratic Republic of Congo while working alongside local communities to ensure gorilla survival in the wild. The DZS has traveled to GRACE to conduct gorilla health assessments, and we have been a leader in training local veterinarians and providing expertise in humane education. 💚 The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund is dedicated to conserving, protecting and studying gorillas and their habitats in Africa.
