“I didn’t grow up with a strong STEM influence, and most of the science experiments I experienced were through ‘Bill Nye the Science Guy’ videos. Even in high school, my school lacked the proper resources or there were an insufficient number of students to participate in basic lab experiments or engaging science activities. A part of me felt isolated when everyone else around me was building upon their passion in the trades, sports or agriculture. It took me 17 years to realize that the piece I was missing all along was STEM, and I was fortunate enough to be involved in a program that truly emphasized the impact of what I could do beyond titrations or scientific research. It’s such a privilege to be granted this scholarship, because it’s going to allow me to interact with brilliant minded people who are passionate about the same things I am.”
