Gov. Gavin Newsom of California, speaking at The New York Times’s Climate Forward event on Wednesday, assailed President Trump’s UN address, in which he denied climate change. On the first day of his second term in office, Trump signed an executive order – again – to withdraw from the 2015 Paris Agreement, a voluntary pact among nearly 200 nations to cut greenhouse gases and keep rising global temperatures in check. No other country has left the agreement, but Chris Wright, the energy secretary, said at the Climate Forward event that he would like to see other countries do the same.
