The Southern Heritage Classic is more than a football game — it’s a cultural tradition that carries Memphis’ spirit of heritage, history, and HBCU pride. Founder Fred Jones, now 77, admitted this year almost didn’t happen. After Tennessee State bowed out and Jackson State stepped away years ago, the Classic faced its toughest test yet. But like Memphis always does, it found a way. 🌟 On Sept. 27th, 2025, at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium, Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Alcorn State will take the field — with alumni, fans, and families filling the city with parades, tailgates, bands, and the unmatched vibe of the fifth quarter. For Jones, this was about more than survival. It was about honoring 36 years of legacy, keeping the doors open for the culture, and proving that Memphis traditions are built to last.
