In honor of Latine Heritage Month and to celebrate her birthday, we are spotlighting queer Chicana poet, writer, & feminist theorist Gloria Anzaldúa. The late writer was born on this day in 1942 in Harlingen, Texas. A scholar on Chicana feminism, cultural theory, and queer theory, Anzaldúa explored culture and collective identity throughout her writing. She received her B.A. in English, Art, and Secondary Education from Pan American University and her M.A. in English and Education from the University of Texas. Through her work, she has been foundational to Chicane/Latine studies in campuses nationwide. She is best known for co-editing "This Bridge Called My Back: Writings by Radical Women of Color" (1981) and her acclaimed work Borderlands/La Frontera: The New Mestiza", published in 1987.
