The West Highland Way Diaries: Day 5 Despite this being our shortest day at 8 miles, it ended up being just as beautiful (and demoralizing) as the rest. We woke at Tyndrum Holiday Park to be greeted by a woman with a hilarious amount of temporary tattoos, and she insisted that we take some. I think she could tell we were all a bit down on our luck. Tess’s vasculitis was flaring up, Kallie’s toes were blistering more and more, and I was in the throes of a terrible head cold. Mallory was just happy to be there - thank goodness for her optimism. We trudged the old military road for most of the day, with the alpine of Scotland looming closer and closer with each step. In what became a daily norm, we saw hundreds of sheep, old friends on the trail, and stopped for a few riverside snack breaks.
