When deadly flash floods swept through central Texas in July, this man and his cloud seeding company were blamed by some social media users.
Augustus Doricko’s company Rainmaker did seed clouds in Texas two days before the floods, but it happened more than 100 miles away from where the floods hit and the clouds they seeded dissipated within hours.
Cloud seeding is a decades-old weather modification technology, and involves spraying chemicals into existing clouds to help them produce more rain or snow.
