I just watched a century-old oak get cut down in my neighborhood in Mid-City😭 This tree was dying when being cut down, and it brings up the critical need for tree replacement. One tree may not seem like much, but it’s part of a bigger crisis: New Orleans has lost nearly half its canopy since Katrina. That means hotter streets, more flooding, and less wildlife habitat, & less natural protection for all of us. We need our leaders to enforce the new tree ordinance, require replanting, and stop treating removals like routine business.
