“If I didn’t have the experience of being a soccer and hockey player at Canisius High School, there’s a zero-percent chance I’d be working in the NHL right now. And there’s zero-point-zero-zero chance I’d be standing here right now.”
Those were the words of our keynote speaker, Buffalo Sabres Assistant General Manager Jerry Forton ’82, who gave a great talk reflecting on his CHS formation during today’s tremendous Legacy Fund Luncheon.
Hockey and soccer are also the sports that longtime coach Sam Belsito happens to have won state championships in during his outstanding tenure at CHS.
Belsito was the honoree at this year’s event, held at the Foundry Suites.
“It is a passion for the game, and more importantly, it’s a passion for Canisius High School – Sam embodies that every day for us and he stays consistent with our mission,” Director of Athletics Jim Mauro said of Belsito.
“There’s no better person to receive an award here for his dedication and commitment.”
