#TrialWatch is in the courtroom today for the latest hearing against Tunisian media commentator and lawyer Sonia Dahmani. She faces a sentence of up to 10 years in prison under a repressive anti “fake news” law that has been repeatedly wielded to criminalize journalists who report critically on the Tunisian government. This is just one of five cases against her. She’s already been convicted in three and has been sentenced to more than four years behind bars. Today’s hearing carries especially high stakes. Penalties are doubled when the alleged false information targets a public official or state institution—in this case, the General Directorate of Prisons and Rehabilitation—allowing for up to 10 years’ imprisonment. #Tunisia #WageJustice #PressFreedom #HumanRights #MediaFreedom
