Museo Casa Kahlo, which just opened in Mexico City on September 27, gives fans of legendary painter Frida Kahlo a look into the Mexican artist’s inner world and family life through personal mementos, intimate letters, toys, and never-before-seen artworks. The building where the museum is housed, known as la Casa Roja, is located near Frida’s house, which is known as la Casa Azul and eventually became the well-known Museo Frida Kahlo. Frida eventually bought la Casa Roja for her sister Cristina and her family to live in. Now, the iconic artist’s closest living relative Mara Romeo Kahlo is converting the home into a museum that will offer a new perspective on Frida. “Frida’s legacy belongs to the world, but it begins here—on this land, in these homes and in the culture that shaped her.
