An executive order has been signed by President Trump today approving a proposal that could transfer majority ownership of TikTok to the United States.
“This is going to be American-operated all the way,” Trump said during the signing on Thursday according to NBC News.
Under the proposal, TikTok's Chinese parent company ByteDance and its affiliates have its ownership reduced to 20%, while 80% will be owned by American investors. Who those investors are has yet to be revealed.
Additionally, though the US and China have signaled they are aligned on the deal, it will still likely require regulatory approvals from both countries.
This is still-developing story, so expect further updates on PCMag.
