Every Seollal or Chuseok, Korea’s biggest holidays, traffic jams come hand-in-hand with the season 🚗💨
With Chuseok just around the corner, people are already plotting how to dodge the jams 🧐 But 30–40 years ago, traffic was simply unavoidable. With most of Seoul’s population hitting the road to visit family, highways looked just like these photos.
A Seoul–Busan trip? Try 16–18 hours back then 😵 Highways became giant parking lots — folks got out to stretch, ate roadside like a picnic, and even turned car hoods into dining tables 👀🍱
These days, scenes like this are rare — better roads, GPS, and more people choosing overseas trips over long drives home.
Uncomfortable, sure. But behind those endless waits was the joy of heading back to family. And sometimes, you can’t help but miss that old-school vibe. 🫶
