US scientists have made early-stage human embryos by manipulating DNA taken from human skin cells. The Orgeon Health and Science University research team uses the nucleus, which houses a copy of the entire genetic code, out of a skin cell and then places it inside a donor egg. However the egg isn't ready to be fertilised as it already contains a full suite of chromosomes. Scientists are hoping they can persuade the egg to discard half of its chromosomes in the next step. Proffesor Paula Amato, from Oregon Health and Science University, said: "In addition to offering hope for millions of people with infertility due to lack of eggs or sperm, this method would allow for the possibility of same-sex couples to have a child genetically related to both partners." #SameSexCouple #LGBTQNews #IVF #SameSexFamily #LGBTQFamily #QueerFamily
