The truth is, it isn’t that we can’t build lasting friendships. It’s that we’ve been trying to do it in a world that misreads us at every turn. Being a Black woman already comes with a set of expectations: be social, be available, be accommodating. Layer on neurodivergence — ADHD, autism, AuDHD and suddenly your natural ways of existing get mislabeled as strikes against you instead of understood as differences. This post is for every neurodivergent Black person who has ever felt like a burden in friendship. You are not broken. You are not annoying. You are not strange. You deserve relationships that honor your rhythms and see your full humanity.
