Sophie Schmidt has a field named after her in Abbotsford, BC! 🥇⚽
The MRC Sports Complex officially unveiled new names for three fields on Sept. 26, honouring Olympic champion Sophie Schmidt, Indigenous soccer pioneer Terry Felix, and late Abbotsford officer John Davidson. 👏
Schmidt, who grew up playing at these very fields, has 226 caps for Team Canada, five FIFA World Cups, and Olympic medals in 2016 & 2020. “This is where the dream started,” she said. “A place for joy, sweat, laughter, and new dreams.” 🥹
The four fields will now collectively be called Léts'ev mó:t, Léts'e th'á:le, One Heart, One Mind, guided by the Abbotsford School District’s Indigenous Education Council. 🤩
We love to see it! 👑
