While living in South Boston, Dana White says James "Whitey" Bulger’s gang tried to shake him down for money. “I literally hung up the phone, picked it back up, called Delta and got a flight out to Vegas,” recalls White, now CEO of UFC. What did he learn from that? “Nothing,” he says. But looking back, he adds, “I obviously made the right decision.” Bulger, a notorious crime boss, terrorized Boston from the 1970s into the 1990s with a campaign of murder, extortion, and drug trafficking. He spent 16 years on the lam after he was tipped to his pending arrest. In 2013, Bulger was convicted in a string of 11 killings and dozens of other gangland crimes.
