Reportedly a general telecommunications blackout has hit Afghanistan, a few weeks after the Taliban authorities began cutting fiber optic connections in several provinces in an effort to combat 'morality concerns’.⁣ ⁣ It’s the first time Afghanistan has experienced a shutdown of this kind since the Taliban seized power in August 2021.⁣ ⁣ The UN has said that the communications blackout in Afghanistan has ‘extremely serious repercussions’ on human rights, stressing that ‘women and girls, already excluded from public life, are particularly affected.’⁣ ⁣ This measure also restricts "the free flow of information" and has an impact on "access to essential services, from health to education to banking services," the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights said on X.⁣ ⁣ #afghanistan #internet #internetblackout #taliban
