📍 Club No Name / Club Expo – 4069 Lamar Ave.
This wasn’t just a club — this was the birthplace of crunk.
🎶 In 1986-87, DJ Spanish Fly was live on the 1s & 2s — scratching, mixing, and bringing the raw Memphis sound to the people. Before his set, the floor would get warmed up by Ray The J, Sundown Kid (aka Soni D), and Disco Hound.
📻 The world was listening too — the Budweiser Saturday Nite Live Dance Party broadcast on Magic 101.1 FM every weekend straight out of Club No Name.
👑 The legends came through — from 2 Live Crew to Memphis’ own trailblazers. Fashion, wrestling stars, vinyl crates, and wall-to-wall crowds — this was the energy that shaped a generation.
💥 Before “crunk” had a name, Memphis already had the sound.
Before the world caught on, we lived it here first.
This is Memphis history. This is where crunk started.
