A coalition of UC Berkeley students, faculty and community members gathered on Sproul Plaza on Tuesday to protest UC Berkeley’s release of personal information of 160 student and faculty members to the federal government. At its peak, the protest drew about 100 people.
The protest comes almost a month after emails were sent Sept. 4, notifying students and faculty that their personal information was released to the federal government in compliance with a Department of Education investigation into alleged antisemitism.
“When UC Berkeley tries to crack down on any one of the 160 of us, we will continue to speak out because we are safer and stronger together,” said UC Berkeley electrical engineering and computer science lecturer Peyrin Kao in a speech.
