SOFTBALL KNIGHTS 1 HEAT INDEX 0 This past Wednesday, the McCallum softball team held its first outdoor practice of the 2025–26 season. The Knights finally took the field after weeks of being restricted indoors due to high heat indexes that made outdoor activity unsafe. According to AISD heat policies, practices are capped at two hours when the temperature reaches 100 degrees and one hour at 105. The policy also requires water breaks every 15–20 minutes. Senior Zara Cacci said it was refreshing to see the team—both newcomers and returners—interacting on the field after spending the early season limited to indoor workouts. “The heat has kept us inside a lot, but we’ve been able to use the weight room and do drills in the halls of the fieldhouse,” Cacci said. “This outdoor practice has kicked off both fall ball and off-season work, so we’re still getting back into things.
