Jennifer Tilly has shared her reflections on the groundbreaking sapphic neo-noir ‘Bound’ nearly 30 years after its release, recalling how risky it was for actresses to take on queer roles at the time. “When we went in, [the Wachowskis] said to us, ‘You will not believe the actresses who refused to come in and read’ because it was considered detrimental to your career to play a lesbian character,” Tilly told The Blade. “But I was astonished because I thought, ‘This is the best script that I’ve read in such a long time with one of the best roles for women.’”The 1996 film, directed by the then-unknown Wachowski Sisters, followed Tilly and Gina Gershon as two women who fall in love and plot to steal millions in mob money. Tilly said it remains one of her favourite performances and is glad to see ‘Bound’ gaining renewed recognition. “It’s been on a lot of lists of the best film noir, the best lesbian movies.” #Bound #jennifertilly #ginagershon #thewachowskis #lesbian
