Ethel Cain has addresses past 'racist language' in a new interview with Cosmopolitan.
In July a number of old posts made by the transgender musician resurfaced on X.
In the social media posts, posted on Tumblr before Cain found fame, the singer admitted to using the racist N-word slur, and retorted “build that wall” in response to a post mocking Latinx people.
“Build that wall” is a sentiment popularised by president Donald Trump in reference to his anti-immigration stance.
Speaking to Cosmopolitan, Cain said: “This year has been a wake-up call about existing as a trans woman who isn’t palatable to the general public and who is very open about harsh topics.”
“The things from my past were hateful. I will always take accountability for my mistakes,” she continued.
“But at the same time, I want to hold other people accountable for the quickness at which they jump to absolutely destroy.”
