Teachers in Scotland have said transgender students are 'limiting their food and liquid intake' to avoid using the school toilets and being outed. Scotland's largest teaching union, The Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS), said on Wednesday October 1 that the governments updated guidance for trans students did not protect them. The guidance says Scottish schools must provide separate single-sex toilets for boys and girls. It also says pupils must use toilet facilities which corresponds with their biological sex. The EIS says the guidance “falls short of providing clarity and reassurance that the rights of transgender and non-binary pupils will be preserved in the current legal context”. Andrea Bradley, EIS General Secretary, said: “In schools where changes to access arrangements for toilets had been mooted, the EIS heard of transgender learners limiting their food and liquid intake so as to not risk having to use the facilities at school and thereby risk being ‘outed’.” #LGBT...
