Small, remote Burns in vast southeastern Oregon is in a position to be ignored. Once here, however, many travelers find city, named after Scottish poet Robert Burns, is a worthy destination on its own. The place to stay: The Historic Central Hotel. The 1929 hotel was boarded up for two decades but brought back to life in 2019 by Burns residents Forrest and Jen Keady. They retrofitted and renovated the 12-room hotel, and revitalized and decorated it in a rollicking Prohibition-era theme. They opened a community space on the ground level, used for civics and cultural gatherings, and a relaxing outdoor courtyard with a bar, fire pits and backyard style games.
