The beautiful rhythms of Mister Rogers :) . Is this the best acceptance speech of all time? It’s certainly one of my favorites. This is from Fred Rogers’ speech at the 1997 Emmys accepting a Lifetime Achievement Award in television. I’ve been thinking about this clip more and more over the past few months. . Mr. Rogers delivers such a powerful message here, but he never raises his voice. He speaks slowly, quietly, deliberately, with a beautiful lilting jazzy cadence (just like the music he wrote for his show). I tried to capture that here in the performance. . Drumming can be loud and bombastic but sometimes it’s more powerful to play quietly. As Mr. Rogers perfectly displays here, sometimes the most effective rhythm is the Rest. . In those ten seconds, I thought about my parents and grandparents, my brother, all the wonderful teachers and mentors I’ve had through the years.
