"Real Screamo" only consists of the San Diego Emotional Hardcore scene and the late 90's Screamo scene. What is known by "Midwest Screamo" is nothing but Midwest Emo with questionable real Screamo influence. When people try to argue that bands like Hawthorne Heights are not real Screamo, while saying that Merchant Ships is, I can't help not to cringe because they are just as fake emo as Hawthorne Heights (plus the pretentiousness). Real Screamo sounds ENERGETIC, POWERFUL and somewhat HATEFUL. Fake Screamo is weak, self pity and a failed attempt to direct energy and emotion into music. Some examples of REAL SCREAMO are Pg 99, Jeromes Dream, Saetia (the only real screamo band with midwest emo influence) and Combatwoundedveteran. Some examples of FAKE SCREAMO are Merchant Ships, Your Arms Are My Cacoon and I Hate Sex.
