Michael Hawkins Jr. delivered a standout performance in No. 5 Oklahoma’s 44–0 victory over Kent State on Saturday, stepping up in his first start of the 2025 season. Filling in for the injured John Mateer, Hawkins showcased his dual-threat capabilities, completing 11 of 15 passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns in the first half, leading the Sooners to a commanding 23–0 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Hawkins continued to impress, adding a rushing touchdown and a third passing touchdown to his stat line. His efficient play and leadership were instrumental in Oklahoma’s dominant performance, as the offense scored on each of its first five possessions. Hawkins’ ability to execute the game plan and maintain offensive rhythm highlighted his readiness to lead the team in Mateer’s absence.
