Protesters gathered on Sproul Plaza on Friday to call for the immediate disclosure and termination of contracts between UC Berkeley and surveillance technology corporation Palantir. The demonstration was organized by campus club Berkeley for AI Ethics.
Berkeley for AI Ethics is a coalition of students, faculty, labor leaders and community members that holds campus accountable to its partnerships and policies regarding AI. The coalition alleged that Palantir provides the U.S. government with AI technology and allows for “the execution of Palestinians” and “the deportation of Americans.”
The protest began at 2 p.m., with approximately 15 participants at its peak, and most attendees dispersed after the speeches concluded.
