This summer, The Hidden Opponent partnered with South Bronx United to provide 5 weeks of mental health programming for more than 40 SBU Academy student-athletes in their Summer Soccer Scholars program. Thanks to an adidas grant, our Clinical Advisor, Dr. Madeline Barlow, worked with Ariel Deitch, Social Work Program Manager at SBU, to deliver mental health skills building curriculum. Students reflected on their identity outside of sport using co-branded journals, and finished the summer with a project based learning assignment to build a representation of their own mental health toolkit. Throughout the summer, Campus Captains Alexa, Leah, and Angie also visited the Bronx to speak to the student-athletes, support activities in the classroom, and play some soccer with the students!
