Researchers at McGill University have launched Canada’s first ever guide to help healthcare providers offer more inclusive and affirming care to intersex adults.
Co-written with Intersex Canada, ‘Towards Affirmative Intersex Health Communication in Canada’ was developed with the intersex community to tackle barriers like stigma, discrimination and poor communication in health care.
"Affirmative health communication is a key part of providing quality health care for intersex people," said Terese Knoppers, the project lead, told Education News Canada.
They added: “Canada has its own unique medical system and histories. It was important to create a guide for this context and help health-care practitioners sensitively and respectfully engage with this population.”
